Gli stranieri spingono L’Eroica oltre il muro dei 7500 partecipanti; più di mille solo tra tedeschi e inglesi.

Oltre cinquecento le donne partecipanti. L’Eroica è una festa…. anche di nozze.

GPR5_1499 copy

Gaiole in Chianti (SI), 7 ottobre 2018.

Nova Eroica and Eroica Montalcino ready to offer new, exciting experiences.

With just a few days to go before registration opens, here are the 2018 dates and programme.

The thrill of the white roads is becoming ever more irresistible; hundreds of cyclists are already knocking on the door of the organization to register for the springtime Eroica events. In short; registration for Nova Eroica will open at 15.00 on Friday 1 December, while registration for Eroica Montalcino will open at 15.00 on Thursday 7 December. Here are the dates. NOVA Eroica will take place in Buonconvento (Siena) on Sunday 29 April 2018. Nova Eroica is an international, competitive, amateur cycling race with off-race and special timed sections (gravel-enduro), mainly on the white roads of L’Eroica and is open to cyclists whose philosophy privileges team spirit. At the end of the time trials, a ranking of the best 150 times will be created and these top riders will race to the finish. There are two routes to choose from: 89 km and 145 km. Those who choose the shorter route will have four off-race sections and three time trials. Those who opt for the long route will have six off-race sections and five time trials. The best 150 times selected on the 145 km route, as well as all female cyclists, will have access to the individual road race covering the last 48 km. Road-racing, cyclocross and gravel bikes, with carbon, steel, titanium or aluminium frames, may be used. Both teams and individuals may participate in Nova Eroica but team spirit is privileged, with prizes for teams with the most cyclists crossing the finish line within the time limit. Both events will start from 7.30, with the race involving the best 150 times on the long route starting at 15.30. There are three types of teams; male, female and mixed (men and women together). There will be two rankings for each type of team, one for the 89 km route and one for the 145 km route. Teams with most riders crossing the finish line of their respective routes within the time limit will be rewarded. “Nova Eroica is the fruit of a deep passion for this country, its territory and traditions, for courtesy and, why not, for everything that cycling and its history continue to move”, declared Giancarlo Brocci, creator of L’Eroica. For more information, see: http://www.novaeroica.it (ita) and http://www.novaeroica.com (eng). Those who prefer a leisurely ride rather than the pressure of time trials, can participate in NOVA Eroica leisure on Sunday 29 April in Buonconvento. This is a non-competitive event along sections of white and asphalt roads, with routes that are also open to children and families. There are two routes: 48 and 27 km, with starting times between 9.00 and 9.30. Cyclists who are not members of cycling clubs may also participate as long as they register with ACSI (cost 10 Euro) before the event. This ACSI membership includes insurance cover for the day of the event. Eroica Montalcino will take place on Sunday 27 May in Montalcino (Siena). The event is an exact replica of L’Eroica, Gaiole in Chianti. Therefore, Eroica Montalcino is a non-competitive vintage leisure ride, offering cyclists various sections of white and asphalt roads. Eroica Montalcino is dedicated to cyclists wearing vintage cycling gear, on Bici Eroiche/Vintage or Vintage-style bikes, as described in the rules and regulations on the http://www.eroicamontalcino.it and http://www.eroica.cc websites. There are five routes to choose from: 171, 96, 70, 46 and 27 km. The 171 and 96 km routes start between 7.00 and 7.30. The 70 and 46 km routes start between 8.00 and 8.30. The 27 km leisure ride will start at 9.00. Just like this year, in 2018 too, both Nova Eroica and Eroica Montalcino will give cyclists the opportunity to discover and appreciate the Val d’Orcia and Crete senesi, taste the produce for which the whole world envies this territory and experience a three-day festival dedicated to everything that makes the Eroica events unforgettable.

L’Eroica: register for the Ciclo Club Eroica 2018.

On Sunday 1 October, the twenty-first edition of L’Eroica will take place in Gaiole in Chianti. It is the perfect occasion to renew your membership or join the Ciclo Club Eroica which will offer fantastic servies to cyclists of all ages in 2018.

The Ciclo Club Eroica has been launched to share our idea of cycling. The Eroica Ciclo Club is back this year after several false starts in the early 2000s. Those who were around at the beginning (something to be proud of today) will remember that we printed some very rustic membership cards that were only used to give a sense of belonging and to gather some quality people around our newspaper, the only edition that was published for the event at that time. The main Eroica characters (Berruti, Luzzana, Fioresi, Leonardi…) as well as journalists, writers and collectors, collaborated, with their articles, in putting the magazine together. Today, with the twentieth edition behind us, the time is ripe for the Ciclo Club Eroica, a group of people who share our idea of cycling and who want to experience and develop that idea with us even more intensely. The Club already has 800 members. I think it can be said, without fear of contradiction that, at that pioneering time, from that hint at a Club, much has changed in terms of Eroica numbers and geography, but very little in terms of its fundamental values. But I don’t want to risk a theoretical debate about what I think and feel and what the reality is. What is certainly true, we can express in the founding concept of the Club in its first year of existence: many of us want to win back this sport, the great sport of cycling that boasts a store of immense passion. The number of members who have joined the Club is in line with our highest expectations and we are creating a community to exchange ideas and initiatives, develop proposals, share special moments, while offering services that will make your Eroica experience extraordinary. We haven’t dedicated enough time to the Ciclo Club and its members; it has been such a busy year, full of new things and world events that we have been left short of breath, legs and sleep. We will recover, consolidate our agendas and organise a network of contacts with whom we can exchange ideas and opinions that will make our dream come true, turning our young hopes into reality. We aim to design the cycling of the future, as well as enjoy – as we already do – heroic cycling as the extraordinary experience of life, culture, fatigue, adventure, friendship and tourism that it is. We want to enjoy this great sport, practiced simply for sport’s sake. Services for members will continue to improve and become more accessible. Regarding the commercial aspect, I think I can guarantee that the cost of membership more than covers the benefits gained and what we foresee for 2018 is even more gratifying. For now, I will dedicate more of my personal time, and I hope some literary and cultural ideas, to Club members; I will try to answer all those who would like to make a real contribution to the life of the Ciclo Club Eroica directly. Meanwhile, with your help too, we will continue with the Under 23 experience. Youth cycling needs to be re-invented and grounded in sound philosophy, with projects capable of making young riders want to practice this fantastic sport in a healthy and fun way.

Eroica Montalcino: Brunello and magnificent landscapes, from 5 to 7 May.

image002

This Saturday, in the Teatro degli Astrusi, Andrea Satta will present the festival in a Preview of Eroica Montalcino.

Anteprima_Eroica_Montalcino_2017_cartolina_Pagina_1

On 5, 6 and 7 May, in Montalcino, world famous for its Brunello and its magnificent countryside, an array of different art forms will set the scene for the first edition of Eroica Montalcino that promises lots of surprises and not just for cyclists, in the same vein as those offered by L’Eroica Gaiole in Chianti over the past 20 years. Cyclists can choose from four routes; a 46 km route dedicated to Brunello, because it will wind its way through the vineyards which produce the region’s finest DOC wines. The second short route is about 70 km long, the medium route covers 102 km, while the fourth and longest route is 171 km. The latter will pass through some of the most beautiful locations in the province of Siena: San Quirico D’Orcia and Bagno Vignone, famous for their thermal waters, Pienza, birthplace of Pope Pius II and renowned for its Pecorino cheese and wine, Montisi and San Giovanni d’Asso, lands where truffles abound, and Buonconvento, which has been been recognised as ‘one of the most beautiful villages in Italy’.

Eroica Montalcino, under the direction of Andrea Satta, voice of Têtes de Bois, has one characteristic that distinguishes it from all the others; it will be a festival involving the entire historical centre of Montalcino with shows and events dedicated to the world on two wheels. It promises to enchant adults and children alike, telling the story of the cycling of yore and its everlasting values, such as “the beauty in fatigue and the thrill of the conquest”. The most precious victories, both in sport and everyday life are won thanks to these values.

So Montalcino will be filled with theatre, music, books and street games that will render the first weekend in May unique with an unforgettable festival. Vintage jerseys like lanterns, radio broadcasts booming out across town, each square and exhibition will be dedicated to a cycling domestique. Apart from the many guests, the festival will graced by the presence of eleven domestiques from the time of Coppi to the present day; from Idrio Bui, 84-year old assistant to the number one, to Marzio Bruseghin, Marcello Osler, Primo and Franco Mori, Roberto Poggiali, Mario Traversoni, Paolo Fornaciari, Alan Marangoni, Pietro Campagnari, Roberto Conti who long cycled side-by-side with extraordinary champions like Pantani, Gimondi, De Wlaemink, Merckx, Chiappucci and others.

Anteprima_Eroica_Montalcino_2017_cartolina_Pagina_2.jpg

Andrea Satta’s thoughts on Eroica Montalcino: “Alfredo Martini taught me that cycling is a school that involves understanding others, their language and their culture. L’Eroica is a ride, not a race. Nobody wins at Eroica. Those who take part and have fun are the winners. Being here means accepting a common language and doing something positive for your personal development. This year, after twenty years of Eroica, as well as the ride in Montalcino, there will also be a festival, or more precisely, a party.

Writers, poets, jugglers, acrobats, cyclists past and present, singers, actors, various artists, they are all teachers in their own right.

Three days in Montalcino, the beautiful town, famous for its wine and picture-perfect landscapes. Three days in May, like a Renaissance triptych.

There will be thousands of strange faces, Italian and foreign beauties, old jerseys and fresh fatigue, roads without tar, beards and moustaches, all on two wheels”.

At 9 pm on Saturday 25 March, at the Teatro degli Astrusi in Montalcino the “Eroica Montalcino Preview” will be held. During the evening, members of Têtes de Bois, Andrea Satta and Angelo Pelini, together with the organisers of Eroica Montalcino, will describe the ideas and characteristics of the event, the routes and especially the festival. Special guest for the evening is actor, Paolo Hendel with lots of other surprises in store.

Pre-registration for L’Eroica in October opens

It is also possible to enter Nova Eroica and Eroica Montalcino, the two Eroica events taking place at the end of April and beginning of May

leroica_paolo_martelli

Gaiole in Chianti (SI), January 19th 2017: Starting this week and until the end of the month, it will be possible to pre-register for L’Eroica. Then, from 12 February, the click days will open and it will also be possible to choose the “combined” registration for one or both of the springtime events, Nova Eroica andEroica Montalcino. Registration for these two events opens today, Thursday 19 January and a combination of the two of them can also be chosen. Everything is explained in detail in the Rules & Regulations on the respective websites: www.eroicagaiole.com,www.novaeroica.comwww.eroicamontalcino.com.

In 2017, Eroica in Italy offers a truly complete range of events; the first on Sunday 30 April in Buonconvento (Siena), one of the ‘most beautiful villages of Italy’, that will host Nova Eroica. This is a really innovative event within the Eroica panorama because it will be possible to participate in Nova Eroica on modern bicycles and there will be a final ranking. The race will involve a series of timed sections and a partial ranking that will determine the list of participants in the competitive race which will cover the last part of the route. So, with Nova Eroica, we are going back to the model that gave life, in 2007, to the Monte Paschi Eroica, the professional race that, since its launch, has become one of the most popular classics among cyclists and fans.

A week later and just a few kilometres away, Eroica Montalcino will take place. In this case too, we are dealing with something completely new. On Sunday 7 May Eroica will take us to this world-famous territory, thanks to its history and excellent local produce. On the sporting front, this is a ‘heroic’ cycling event in line with the best Eroica traditions; ‘heroic’ bikes, gravel roads, routes that are suitable to every type of cyclist and fitness level. Both in Buonconvento and Montalcino, the two events will be preceded by days involving interesting activities for all the family.

L’Eroica could only have been born in Tuscany. It’s a matter of soul, of land, white roads, landscapes, of genuine food and wine, of culture and passions, of history and of Bartali. Now world-renowned for the special people it involves and for the values it upholds, Eroica encapsulates the very essence of Tuscany, a place that offers a lifestyle that looks to the future, without neglecting its identity and its environment, while also seeking to rediscover the authentic roots of the great sport that is cycling.

Eroica double date in spring

unnamed3

After the extraordinary success of the second edition, Eroica Primavera is about to be renewed and will split into two events. On 30 April the Nova Eroica will be launched in Buonconvento, and on the following Sunday, 7 May, we’ll have Eroica Montalcino. While we wait for all the information on both events to be published on the respective websites, here is a preview of what awaits.

eroica_buonconvento_marco_rimondi
Eroica Buonconvento

The aim of Eroica Nova in Buonconvento is to re-open our movement to modern bikes while staying on the L’Eroica permanent route. Some stretches of the route will be timed but the regulations will give precedence to team spirit and conviviality. Between the competitive sections, the pace will be set by a group of ex-professional cyclists, who will ensure that the speed is such as to allow participants to appreciate the incomparable scenery and the food stops.

Eroica Montalcino, on the other hand, will follow the classic, orthodox Eroica format: pre-1987 bikes, no competition, unless with yourself, some alternative stretches of white roads that are not on the permanent route, with food stops located in very special settings. This impressive area, which enjoys world fame and prestige, thanks to its remarkable history and celebrated wine, will also host a music and culture festival, involving many local entrepreneurs.

A Press Conference to present Nova Eroica will be held in the Teatro dei Risorti in Buonconvento at 5 p.m. on Friday 16 December.

Eroica Montalcino: from 5 to 7 May, a three-day festival together with the heroic ride along four different routes

image002

In May, “the beauty in fatigue and the thrill of the conquest” that is synonymous with Eroica will meet the magical landscapes of Montalcino

eroica-montalcino-04

When breath-taking landscapes and panoramas, art, history and culture in one of Italy’s most beautiful villages – Montalcino – meet with the “beauty in fatigue and the thrill of the conquest” that have always characterised Eroica, that’s when the dream event that fans have been waiting for becomes reality. Eroica Montalcino will be the perfect opportunity to experience and savour this magnificent region and all it has to offer, over three days of fun for the thousands of enthusiasts that Eroica will bring. Over the past few days the organisers have presented the programme for Eroica Montalcino, which will take place from 5 to 7 May 2017. It promises to be a true festival of light, sounds and images and a chain of events that will appeal to “collectors of adventures” from all over the worlderoica-montalcino-01

The Festival will involve the whole historical centre of Montalcino; from the Fort, which will be the backdrop for spectacular events with lights, music and images telling the story of cycling, to the Church of Sant’Agostino, venue for exhibitions and conventions, to the Astrusi Theatre where stories of heroic cycling will be recounted. Eroica Caffè will host cyclists and their families in the Cappellone Cloister and a cyclo-bookshop will be located in the cloister of the ancient Municipal Palace.

The start and finish lines for the four available routes (27–150 km) will be situated in Piazza del Popolo, with a maximum number of participants fixed at 1,800. Pre-registration will open in December. The festival will be directed by two exceptional individuals: Andrea Satta, musician, poet, writer and lead singer of Têtes de Bois, and Mauro Niccoli, an expert in the organisation of international events. Franco Rossi will take care of the sporting aspects and general coordination of Eroica Montalcino. “We are honoured to host Eroica – stated Mayor Silvio Franceschelli – which fits in perfectly with what our territory has to offer and with the slow tourism that we propose to our visitors”. “L’Eroica is a community of values first of all. – according to Alberto Gnoli, responsible for Eroica events in Italy – For us, being in Montalcino is like being at home”. “We, at Eroica, cultivate dreams – concluded Giancarlo Brocci, founder of Eroica – we have great ideas, enthusiasm and most of all passion for this amazing sport. And we are seeing results in the response of lots of young people who are equally enthusiastic, energetic and passionate, proving that values like the ‘beauty in fatigue and the thrill of the conquest’ are truly eternal.”
